On Sunday morning, March 25th, Bootsy Collins reported on his personal Facebook page, “I JUST SPOKE TO OUR FRIEND BOBBY WOMACK. He Wanted You All to Know That He Loves You & Thxs for the Prayers. Docs Says He Is In 1st Stage of Colon Cancer, He is Very Up Beat About His Future, we laughed & joked before we hung up. Thxs Funkateers, we will get him Back on the One!”
Bootsy featured Bobby on his latest album, Funk Capital of the World, on the track “Don’t Take My Funk Away“. The soulman’s gritty strength is apparent as ever in the thumping track which gives dubs to James Brown and Sly & the Family Stone.
Womack is no stranger to cancer. He has battled cancer twice before, and Bootsy attests that he is staying optimistic and ready as ever to take on upcoming projects.
Please see yesterday’s post for more info on Bobby’s 6 decades in music, a FREE track from his upcoming album, and more details of how you can show support to Bobby. It is not yet clear if the star will be able to attend the LoveBox Festival for which his debut gig is scheduled to support the new album- aptly titled The Bravest Man In The Universe.
